Science

The general theme of my research is ionospheres, particularly the Earth's ionosphere and its interaction with the space around the Earth on the one hand and the atmosphere on the other.

Facilities and Instruments

For my experimental research I and colleagues use facilities and instruments.
  • Swarm, a mission of the European Space Agency consisting of three satellites to measure the magnetic signals that stem from Earth's core, mantle, crust, oceans, ionosphere and magnetosphere launched on November 22, 2103. We have developed Langmuir probes as part of the Swarm EFI (electric field instrument). My work is related to the LP data processing and scientific analysis.
  • EISCAT, the European Incoherent Scatter Association operating incoherent scatter radars and a heater for ionospheric modifications experiments.
  • Cluster, a mission of the European Space Agency consisting of four identical satellites in orbit at up to about 120,000 km (or 20 RE) distance. My work is  related to the Fluxgate Magnetometer (FGM) and the Electric Fields and Waves instrument (EFW).

Teaching at Uppsala university

  • Magnetospheric Physics, graduate course

Outreach

  • Guiding visitors of the IRF, often school classes with children in the ages 8-13 (same as my kids).
